Microsatellite analysis

Microsatellite analysis includes PCR amplification of the microsatellite loci using fluorescently labeled primers; labeled PCR products are subsequently analyzed by capillary electrophoresis (see GeneScan analysis)  or electrophoresis to separate the alleles by size. This method is used for linkage mapping studies, forensic studies, identifying individuals and Microsatellite instability (MSI) that often occurs in tumor cells.
